An independent government agency is the National Electoral Commission Tume Ya taifa ya Uchaguzi (NEC). Article 74(1) of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977 Constitution established it in 1993.

Job openings for the Saturday, June 8, 2024, by-election of a Member of Parliament in the Kwahani Constituency have been announced by the National Electoral Commission.

A document bearing the signature of the National Electoral Commission’s Director of Elections states that the Commission anticipates holding a by-election on June 8, 2024, to fill the position of Member of Parliament for the Kwahani Constituency in the Mjini District of the Zanzibar West Region. To carry out this duty, the Commission is posting job openings to find officials to manage the exercise. The following positions are open:

Open Positions and Description:

1. Election Supervisor

Responsibilities:

  • Organize and supervise the district’s election-related activities.
  • Keep an eye on and supervise the work of lower-level election officials. Keep the necessary electoral supplies in the appropriate district.
  • Control how election money is used.
  • To guarantee that election operations are conducted efficiently, cooperate and confer with the Election Coordinator.
  • As directed by the National Electoral Commission, submit updates on the status of the election process.

Qualifications:

  • Has to be a Tanzanian national.
  • Has to work for the government.
  • Must possess a diploma, certificate, or bachelor’s or master’s degree in any discipline.
  • Has to live in the appropriate district.

2. Assistant Election Supervisor at the Constituency Level – 2 Positions

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee every election-related activity in the appropriate constituency.
  • In all election-related matters, support the Election Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Has to be reliable and honest.
  • Need to be prepared to work independently and diligently. Experience with elections and voter registration is a must.
  • Must not have been found guilty in the previous five years of any disciplinary or criminal crime carrying a sentence longer than six months.
  • Must not have served as the leader of a political party for more than five years.
