By virtue of the Tanzania Meteorological Authority Act No. 2 of 2019, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) was founded. The organization is in charge of regulating, organizing, and providing customized meteorological services for socioeconomic development to the general public, institutions, and individual users.
In order to save property and human life during severe weather, the Authority is also in charge of issuing advisories and warnings.
Open Positions and Description:
1. Assistant Meteorological Officer II – 5 POSTS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To support the oversight of data gathering for the purpose of examining meteorological charts and data;
- To transmit, decode, and encode weather and meteorological messages;
- To supply charts with plots and observations;
- To conduct upper air operations (such as pilot balloon ascent and radiosonde operation);
- To compute basic statistics and process autographic data;
- To get, modify, and distribute meteorological products, data, and signals;
- To support the oversight of data gathering for the analysis of conversations and meteorological data.
- In order to provide meteorological services in a variety of sectors, including agrometeorology, hydrometeorology, marine ecology, and seismology, among others, it is necessary to verify the accuracy of the data collected;
- To gather information for aviation material documentation and meteorological flight plans;
- To converse with and provide various users with meteorological information;
- To send and receive aeronautical data between ground stations and airplanes; and
- To carry out any additional tasks that the supervisor may designate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Possess a diploma from an accredited institution in one of the following fields: meteorology, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), or the Senior Meteorological Technician Course.
SALARY SCALE: AS PER TMA SCALE.
2. Technician II (Telecommunication) – 2 POSTS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To test, install, fix, and maintain meteorological instruments, such as oxygen plants, barometers, anemometers, and optical theodolites.
- To test, install, fix, and maintain electrical, electronic, and telecommunication devices, including air conditioners, power supplies, HF, VHF, and UHF receiver/transmitters, as well as non-specialized devices such fax machines, teleprinters, printers, and recorders; and
- To carry out any additional tasks that the supervisor may designate.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of a Full Technician Certificate (FTC) or Diploma (NTA level 6) in one of the following disciplines: mechanical, electrical, electronics, or telecommunication engineering from an accredited university.

- Certificates from foreign examination bodies for Ordinary or Advanced level education should be verified by The National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA);
- Professional certificates from foreign Universities and other training institutions should be verified by The Tanzania Commission for Universities (TCU) and National Council for Technical Education (NACTE)
