Applications are being accepted for research assistants for the newly awarded “Study of Vi Agroforestry’s Impact on Agrobiodiversity through SALM and Agroforestry,” which is being conducted by a consortium consisting of Africa Research and Data Ltd. and Prime Expertise Limited.The purpose of this study is to determine how this program would affect agrobiodiversity, which is the range and diversity of plants, animals, and microorganisms that are either directly or indirectly utilized in agriculture and food production, such as forestry, fisheries, crops, and livestock. The study will specifically explore the diversity of genetic resources (varieties, breeds) and species utilized in the production of fuel, food, fiber, fodder, and medicines.

As such, we are looking for a variety of research assistants with demonstrated technical proficiency in the domains of botany, agroforestry, biodiversity, and natural resource management.

Duties:

The research assistants will be responsible for a variety of tasks that are essential to the study’s success.

  1. Interview every person that was recruited for the study in order to obtain important information.
  2. Gather specimens and take pictures of them to record agricultural practices and biodiversity.
  3. Measure farms using transect walks and observations to determine biodiversity and land use.
  4. Every day, finish, revise, and turn in all allocated interviews for cross-checking and validation.
  5. Examine the quantitative data that has been gathered to make sure all inquiries have been addressed completely before submitting online.
  6. If required, get in touch with the participants again to get any missing answers or to fix any errors in the data.
  7. Make sure that all of the allocated study aids and equipment are kept safely and properly maintained.
  8. Moderate and lead qualitative interviews with research participants, directing conversations to elicit pertinent data.
  9. Make thorough notes, record the interviews, and assemble the transcripts of the qualitative interviews for debriefing.

Minimum Qualifications:

The following are the minimal requirements for possible candidates:

  1. an undergraduate or diploma program in botany, agroforestry, biodiversity, agriculture, or natural resource management.
  2. skill in written and spoken communication, as well as fluency in both Swahili and English.
  3. familiarity with electronic data capture techniques using electronic digital recorders and devices such as KoBo Collect, ODK, SurveyCTO, or equivalent technologies.

Mandatory Requirements:

We understand that people with different backgrounds and expertise can collect data in accordance with the technical requirements of this project. However, since this specific study calls for specialized knowledge and experience, we will only accept submissions from applicants with a degree or certification in botany, agroforestry, biodiversity, agriculture, or natural resource management.

Additionally, it is required to dwell in either the Kagera Region (Tanzania) or Bungoma County (Kenya).
