The Embassy is based in the Tanzanian commercial capital of Dar es Salaam and is one of the biggest Norwegian embassies abroad.

The Program Officer/adviser will be part of our Political Team and assist in managing development cooperation agreements pertaining to the Embassy’s work on good governance, peace and stability, human rights, gender equality.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Program Officer – Regional Affairs

Responsibilities:

  • Help oversee and manage the regional programs and projects of the Embassy, including but not restricted to: monitoring, risk management, follow-up, formal correspondence preparation, document preparation for formal meetings and external communication, evaluation of new projects, and project closure.
  • Using the internal grant management systems to their full potential can help ensure that the relevant portfolio has good grant management compliance.
  • Participate in the political reporting on regional topics published by the Embassy.
  • Participate in the Embassy’s communication efforts about regional issues, such as energy, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights as human rights, and peace and stability.
  • Attend conferences with other partners in development.
  • Help in planning trips, gatherings, conferences, and other occasions.

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • A master’s degree from a university or comparable related work experience is preferred.
  • Substantial professional experience (at least five years), ideally gained in multinational settings like Embassies and international organizations.
  • Strong understanding of regional politics, challenges, and peacekeeping efforts, as well as regional human rights initiatives (particularly those in Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, and the Great Lakes).
  • Strong writing and analytical abilities.
  • English language proficiency as well as expertise drafting succinct reports and political assessments.
  • Understanding of other languages spoken in the Great Lakes, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and Rwanda.

The pay will be in line with what local Foreign Service Mission employees in Norway are paid by the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.
