Barrick Gold Corporation

The North Mara gold mine (Barrick Gold Corporation) is located in the Tarime district of the Mara region, northwest Tanzania. It is located around 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border and 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria.

In 2002, Barrick North Mara started producing products for market. The mine operates both open pit and underground, with two deposits: Nyabirama (open pit) and Gokona. The process unit is capable of processing an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Safety Officer

Responsibilities 

  • Helping North Mara Mine adopt the NMGML Occupational Health and Safety Management System.
  • Supporting NMGML in implementing ISO 45001:2018 standard.
  • Helping the safety supervisor to make sure that all operations at the North Mara Mine adhere to the company’s safety and health standards as well as any relevant legal obligations.
  • Ensuring the safe and effective functioning of North Mara Mine operations and related infrastructure by offering conspicuous and superior safety assistance to all North Mara Departments, Business Partners, and Contractors.
  • Help to keep the North Mara Mine’s nine Barrick Safety and Health Management System components in working order.

Qualification requirements

  • Advanced secondary schooling, or a comparable program.
  • NOSHC certification.
  • The Occupational Health and Safety Certificate III/IV.

2. Boilermaker

Responsibilities 

  • On time complete work orders for preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs, generate follow-up notifications, and offer feedback on the job done.
  • Removes faulty pieces by disassembling equipment, utilizing hand and power tools, hoists, cranes, and inspecting the shape and texture of the parts.
  • Maintains inventories of parts, supplies, and equipment by calculating stock levels, estimating future needs for parts, supplies, and equipment, and planning with a supervisor.
  • Keeps work teams together by recording and sharing actions, anomalies, and ongoing requirements.
  • In charge of the transfer of shifts at the area of duty.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/Vocational Education, Apprenticeship Training, and On-the-Job Training (including FTC, VETA, and IMTT Trade Tests or similar programs).
  • Solid understanding of best practices and mining safety regulations.

3. Driller

Responsibilities 

  • With a Sandvik DI650i DTH drill rig, drill a sequence of Blast Holes precisely according to a specified pattern.
  • To ensure that holes are drilled in accordance with the design line, gradient, and profile, carefully read and adhere to mine instruction plans.
  • To maximize drill patterns and meters, consult surveyors, geologists, and engineers.
  • Configure and debug blast hole drill rigs, with a focus on the Sandvik DI650i DTH rigs.
  • Observe the applicable Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Rules.
  • Must prepare the regions for drilling, charging, or scraping in compliance with mine safety standards and conduct routine workplace inspection practices and procedures.

Qualification requirements

  • Secondary School Certificate, Vocational Training, Related Field Apprenticeship, or Heavy Equipment Operation College Program.
  • Maintain a current driver’s license.
  • Operating skills for heavy mobile equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Mines Health & Safety Act
  • RC or large diameter DTH drilling experience of at least a year in the recent past.
  • RC and DTH Drilling Activities.
  • Bits and additional RDT performance and selection.
  • Identification of equipment parts and components.

4. Drilling Offsider

Responsibilities 

  • Help the driller precisely operate a Sandvick drill rig to complete blast hole drilling according to a design pattern.
  • Make sure you can help understand and precisely follow mine instruction blueprints, and that the holes are drilled in accordance with the design line, gradient, and profile
  • Help with Blast Hole Drill rig setup and troubleshooting, focusing on Sandvik rigs.
  • Observe the applicable Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Rules.
  • Must prepare the regions for drilling in compliance with mine safety standards and conduct routine workplace inspection practices and procedures.

Qualification requirements

  • A secondary school diploma, a vocational training program, an apprenticeship in a relevant field, or a heavy equipment operation degree from college.
  • Bits and additional RDT performance and selection
  • Results-driven and a team player.
  • Having a current Tanzanian driver’s license is a benefit.
  • Knowledge of the Mines Health & Safety Act.
