Marine Services Company Limited (MSCL)
On December 8, 1997, Marine Services Company Limited (MSCL) was established under the Companies Ordinance (Cap 212) About MSCL.
Transporting passengers and goods along the shores of Lake Victoria, Lake Tanganyika, and Lake Nyasa is the company’s primary duty. “To be the most competitive, reliable, safe, and customer-oriented maritime transport company worldwide” is the company’s mission statement.
Open Positions and Description:
1. Senior Marine Engineer II – 3 POSTS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To keep an eye on the propulsion and electrical systems’ functioning and upkeep while on board the ship;
- Must inspect, maintain, and report any faults with all equipment and make necessary repairs or changes;
- To suggest any essential modifications and repairs;
QUALIFICATIONS
- Owner of the Certificate of Competency for Second Engineer Officer (SEO) on Ships Up to 3000 kW Propulsion Power (Reg. III/2) and at least seven (7) years of experience working as an OIEW on board ships with propulsion powers more than 750 kW.
SALARY SCALE: MSCS 7
2. Captain – 2 POSTS
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To instruct staff in both routine and emergency procedures;
- To compile and submit reports of ship damage and accidents on time;
- To oversee shipboard communication systems;
- To keep track of vessel operations;
- To stay informed about changes in marine commercial, legal, and political issues;
QUALIFICATION
A degree from an accredited university in marine transportation, maritime transportation, or nautical science will be advantageous or an equivalent certification.
3. Principal Captain – 1 POST
RESPONSIBILITIES
- To provide guidance to ship staff on issues related to the vessel’s safe operation;
- To supervise all deck department work;
- To oversee the loading and unloading process while following his supervisor’s instructions;
- To serve as the bridge’s watch officer in charge during regular operations;
- To make watch assignments and publish them;
- To practice boat and fire drills;
SALARY SCALE: MSCS 9
