Mwambao has been a prominent player in promoting community-based marine management in Zanzibar and northeastern Tanzania. He collaborates with several important international partners, whose partnerships require certain and tactful guidance. The team’s resources, geographic reach, and range of methodologies have all increased dramatically in recent years. Mwambao maintains offices in Tanga, Pangani, Pemba Island, and Unguja Island, Zanzibar, and employs 63 people full-time at the moment.

In order to assist with the management and reporting of a five-year project named “Biodiversity Offsetting and Livelihood Restoration for communities of the MCHOMAPUNDA Community Fisheries Management Area,” which is primarily funded by the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project, Mwambao is looking for an experienced accountant for their Unguja Office in Tanzania. Tanga City serves as the workbase.

In general, the initiative seeks to promote resilient and sustainable behaviors in the targeted communities while addressing livelihood needs and biodiversity offsetting. By 2027, the project aims to develop livelihoods, boost climate change resilience, and restore ecosystems in five communities within the MCHOMAPUNDA CFMA, Tanga, by strengthening the capacity for sustainable community-led marine co-management. In order to help the organization achieve its goal of preserving healthy marine ecosystems via enhanced sustainable resource management and a variety of community livelihoods, the accountant will:

  • Strengthening local marine resource governance institutions.
  • Increasing benefits from sustainable use of marine resources.
  • Improving policy and legislation to support community management.

Responsibilities:

As a member of the Mwambao Management Team, the accountant will answer directly to the Head of Finance, Tanga, and the Tanga Admin and Accountant. Additionally, will collaborate closely with the project manager. His or her main duty is to oversee the project’s daily financial, administrative, accounting, and logistical support operations. In addition to planning, organizing, and directing, in charge of delivering excellent financial and accounting management. To make sure that accounting and finance operations are successful, they will collaborate closely with the team.

More specifically the Accountant will be expected to carry out, among other tasks, the following:

  • Processing financial data, including claims for expenses
  • Employee education on financial policies and practices to guarantee complete correctness and openness.
  • Cash flow management, encompassing projections for budgeting
  • Creation of the fixed asset registry, its ongoing update, and its posting on the financial dashboard Create a donor report draft and tracker for a few chosen initiatives.
  • To perform any other duty that the supervisor assigns you.

Qualifications

  • Competent book keeper work experience spanning at least six years accuracy in providing comprehensive financial and other data reporting.
  • The capacity to operate both independently and in a team.
  • The capacity to manage conflicting duties, organize and prioritize one’s own workload, operate under pressure, and fulfill deadlines.
  • The capacity to communicate clearly both with professionals and with coworkers self-assurance when communicating with outside organizations
  • An awareness of and dedication to equal opportunity.
  • The capacity to keep up efficient office procedures.
  • Exemplary work ethic, self-motivation, and capacity to function both individually and as a team
  • Excellent communication abilities both written and spoken; proficient in Kiswahili and English
  • Outstanding organizational and managerial abilities as well as a track record of management
  • The capacity to set priorities, use time management techniques, and meet deadlines
