International Organization for Migration (IOM)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM), a part of the United Nations System, is the leading intergovernmental organization that has been promoting humanitarian and orderly migration for the benefit of everyone since 1951. It has 175 member states and is present in more than 100 countries. IOM has been present in Tanzania since 2002.

Having been established in 1951, IOM is the leading international organization focused on issues related to migration and works closely with intergovernmental, governmental, and nongovernmental organizations. For the benefit of everybody, IOM is dedicated to promoting humanitarian and orderly migration. It does this by providing governments and refugees with support and advice.

The following financial tasks will be carried out by the appointed candidate, under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission and the Resources Management Officer (RMO) specifically.

Responsibilities

  • Make sure that all tasks and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with IOM policies and regulations in order to oversee and mentor employees in the Finance Unit.
  • Examine each payment to make sure the supporting documents match the payments made via the online banking system.
  • Provide new PRISM Financial users in the Finance Unit with training and support, as well as any other pertinent instruction regarding financial policies and procedures.
  • Make recommendations for strengthening the current internal controls in cooperation with RMO to protect the financial resources of the Country Office.
  • Prepare the Country Office Funding Request from Treasury, Manila, in order to keep track of the bank balances and make sure the office has enough cash on hand.

Qualifications

  • It is necessary to have two years of relevant work experience in addition to a bachelor’s or master’s degree in accounting or a related discipline.
  • Having a qualified CPA (K), ACCA, or its equivalent would be a significant plus.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in other administrative roles like purchasing, finance, human resources, or logistics.
  • Previous SAP usage knowledge is necessary.
  • Previous experience working for a multinational corporation is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural abilities and a track record of collaborating productively and amicably with a group of coworkers.
  • Mature person who can operate on their own, under pressure, maintain accuracy, pay attention to details, fulfill deadlines, and do so with little direction.
  • Proficiency with computers, particularly with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
