A startup called Dark Earth Carbon produces biochar, a kind of charcoal that can absorb carbon and enhance soil health, with the goal of reversing climate change. The company works with smallholder farmers in Africa who may increase crop yields, income, and resilience to famine and drought by applying biochar.

We are looking for a driven, technically savvy person to become a Junior Technical Operator on our team. This position presents a fantastic chance for professional development and practical experience in the biochar sector.

Responsibilities:

To set up the company’s assessment system, which will include a schedule of interviews to check in on the progress, expectations, and long- and short-term goals of the personnel.
To be familiar with the routine duties related to human resources, including scheduling and recording training, keeping track of sick days, payroll at the end of each month, requesting advancements, loan requests, and staff attendance.
To serve as the meeting’s monthly health and safety chair.
To be familiar with all corporate guidelines and protocols pertaining to the HR division.
In compliance with corporate policy, oversees employee complaints, investigations, and disciplinary hearings.
Keeps policies and practices up to date to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and best practices.
Oversees the department’s daily operations.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the job posting
While not necessary, prior knowledge or comprehension of biochar and its uses would be beneficial.

Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Analytical skills, paying close attention to details, particularly when assessing systems and procedures
Independent and capable of making thoughtful choices.
English and Swahili language proficiency is required.
