Research Triangle Institute (RTI)

The principal implementer of the USAID Jifunze Uelewe initiative, which aims to sustainably improve the reading and numeracy outcomes of “all learners” in five regions of Tanzania from pre-primary to Standard 4, is RTI International. “All learners” for the purposes of this program includes, but is not limited to, students who are poor, students with disabilities, students from minority and linguistic minority groups, students in urban and rural areas, students affected by crisis or conflict, and disadvantaged and vulnerable girls and boys.

At the regional level, the School and Community Inclusive Education Specialist is in charge of enhancing the abilities of their counterparts in the GoT to organize and carry out inclusion and community involvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Regional Coordinator for Outcome 3: Enhanced community backing for secure and welcoming learning environments (both within and beyond the school)
  • Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Specialist (TLS) to enhance the ability of Regional and Local Government Authority (LGA) personnel to facilitate inclusion activities in the classroom by providing training, materials, and teacher support.
  • TLS and MEL officers work with the communication specialist to increase the ability of regional and LGA personnel to record and share program accomplishments, lessons learned, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the TLS, MEL officer, Regional, and LGA education offices to gather and exchange best practices and learning data for the program’s improvement.
  • To support PTPs, collaborate with the Grants Under Contract implementing CSOs.

Qualifications:

  • Ten years of experience in inclusive education and/or community participation combined with a bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or a similar profession. or six years of experience and a master’s degree.
  • Proficiency in managing and assisting with major grants and/or contracts sponsored by donors (either bilaterally or multilaterally)
  • Proficiency in establishing an all-encompassing educational setting by means of special needs instruction, inclusive learning, AND/OR offering guidance on community mobilization and capacity building to enhance academic results.
  • Preference given to those with prior experience in early reading, writing, and math programs.
  • Proficiency with computers and the Microsoft Office suite, in particular Word and Excel
  • Proficient in both Kiswahili and English.
