On June 9, 2011, Mercy Corps was founded in Tanzania and registered under the Non-Governmental Act, 2002. The Registrar of NGO’s granted registration number 00NGO/00004646. AgriFin, which aims to close the inclusion gap for smallholder farmers (SHF) by providing them with affordable, easily accessible, demand-driven financial products and services that boost farm families’ income and productivity, is one of the many programs the organization has implemented since its founding. Other programs include livelihood, food and security, and peacebuilding.

Program / Department Summary:

Village Enterprise, Mercy Corps, and Dignity Kwanza are three of the top organizations working to reduce global poverty together on the Delivering Resilient Enterprises and Market Systems (DREAMS) program.Over the course of four years, the DREAMS initiative seeks to enhance the well-being of 150,000 women, men, and children. Our novel approach, which targets naturalized Tanzanians and members of the host community in West Tanzania, will combine two evidence-based models—poverty graduation and market systems development—in order to improve food security and wellbeing and increase household income, savings, and assets.

Responsibilities:

  • Give direction and day-to-day supervision for organizing and carrying out operations, including mentoring and assisting program assistants in their assigned areas of execution.
  • Assist the Team Lead in creating activity plans, budgets, and reports, making sure that predetermined goals and targets are reached.
  • Assist the Team Lead in advocating for and upholding the collaboration with the pertinent departments of local government and community leaders.
  • Assist the Senior MEL Officer and the Team Lead in organizing the needs and market assessments as well as in routinely observing and assessing the program’s operations in compliance with the DREAMS goals.
  • Participate in the creation of project instruments, IEC materials, and training curricula; lead staff trainings at the community level and assist in the process of developing staff capacity.
  • Supports the work and output of local implementing partners by holding regular team meetings, adhering to deadlines for performance reviews, resolving issues, and standardizing implementation techniques.
  • Determine and record successful and unsuccessful DREAMS programming strategies, then promptly provide the Team Lead input.
  • Make ensuring that project reports, success stories, and other pertinent information are sent to the program manager on time and consistently (i.e. weekly, monthly and quarterly reports)
  • Collaborate closely with the technical and implementation teams to plan daily activities and logistics in order to optimize resource waste and guarantee complimentary programming.
  • Under the direction of the Team Lead and Program Manager, coordinate and communicate with the Program Officers and Assistants at the local partner organizations.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting:

  • Staff from Local Partner organizations and Private Sector Partners should get continuous mentoring on data collection procedures to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and completeness.
  • In charge of gathering the designated data, which includes data that is broken down by age and gender, validating the data, ensuring quality control procedures are followed, submitting the data on time, and corresponding with the MEL Specialist.
  • Support and manage the program’s data input and collecting in order to consistently update any MEL tools used to gauge the results and effects of livelihood and social cohesion initiatives.
  • accountable for creating work plans and progress reports on a timely basis on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.

Influence and Representation:

  • In coordination with other Program Officers/Assistants, the Team Lead, and the Program Manager, support and arrange visits from government, regional, and headquarters personnel as well as outside visitors, including funders and journalists.
  • In order to prevent service duplication and to promote a climate that is conducive to livelihood activities, assist the Team Lead in coordinating and communicating field activities with other NGOs and local government partners.
  • Establish and preserve a positive working rapport with additional non-governmental organizations and local government partners. When feasible, collaborate to create complementary joint monitoring, evaluation, and adaptive management mechanisms.

Qualification:

  • A bachelor’s degree in any relevant discipline, such as agriculture, social sciences, microfinance, entrepreneurship, or economics.
  • Three years or more of equivalent professional experience. Experience working for non-profit organizations, the private sector, or for-profit companies with an emphasis on value chain program interventions, market facilitation, or private sector led initiatives or interventions is preferable.
  • It is necessary to have a dynamic, “outside-the-box” mindset and the demonstrated capacity to think and act creatively in difficult situations.
  • Proven abilities in gathering, validating, and recording data
  • Outstanding communication, reporting, and representational abilities
  • Demonstrated expertise in community consultations, team building, networking, and organizational development.
  • The individual must possess the ability to ride a motorcycle and be willing to get or have a valid driving/riding license.
  • It is necessary to have strong interpersonal, written, and oral English presentation skills.
