In response to the US-led bombing campaign of Nicaragua in 1984, Michael Replogle, the founder of ITDP, came up with the modest but innovative notion of sending bikes instead of bombs* as a kind of humanitarian aid to those in need of mobility, such as teachers and healthcare personnel in rural areas. Based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, the Senior Associate, Transport Planning will be crucial in aiding the planning, development, and execution of public transportation systems in African towns. Among other things, the Senior Associate, Transport Planning, will be creating business plans, financial models, infrastructure designs, public transportation service plans, and industry reform plans. There will be a lot of field work involved with this employment, including site visits and surveys. It is required of the Senior Associate, Transport Planning to keep in regular contact with both local and national authorities. The Senior Associate in Transport Planning will work in conjunction with partner organizations, communities, governments, and consultancies. Reporting to the Transport Systems Manager, the Senior Associate, Transport Planning will collaborate closely with ITDP personnel and foreign specialists.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, write, and evaluate technical documents, such as concept notes, financial assessments, business strategies, design documents, feasibility studies, and terms of reference.
- Create models for traffic and travel demand.
- Create creative designs, analyze main and secondary transit data, and oversee project execution.
- Compile data on global best practices and implement locally acquired knowledge.
- Establish productive relationships with a variety of stakeholders, such as public transportation providers, elected officials, media outlets, civil society representatives, and others, in order to foster support for fair and sustainable mobility.
- preserving tight ties with local and national authorities.
- Assist internal and external stakeholders with training.
- Create technical papers and communication materials of the highest caliber.
- Participate in bids for funding.
- Complete any additional tasks that have been allocated.
Qualifications:
- A master’s degree in transport planning, transport engineering, civil engineering, or a related subject.
- A minimum of five years of experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of infrastructure design, public transportation industry reform, transport modeling, data gathering, data processing, and survey design.
- Familiarity in Excel, AutoCAD, and GIS software. Adobe suite experience is preferred.
- Strong communication abilities, including the ability to create eye-catching visuals and deliver engaging presentations. Capacity to express complicated transportation-related issues clearly and persuasively both in writing and vocally.
- Dedicated team player with a strong track record of establishing rapport with clients and peers.
