For the USAID/Tanzania Lishe (Nutrition) Project, Chemonics International Inc., a U.S.-based international development consulting organization, is looking for clinical nutritionist interns. The five-year project is to improve food and health market systems that encourage a variety of stakeholders in the targeted regions of Tanzania to adopt habits related to optimal nutrition. We are looking for people who are passionate about improving people’s lives all across the world.
The candidates should be recent graduates from an accredited college with a degree in clinical nutrition, dietetics, human nutrition, or a similar subject. For a year, the clinical nutritionist interns will work in district or regional health institutions, where they will gain practical experience in patient care and management. It would be required of ideal candidates to successfully advance high-quality nutrition treatments delivered in healthcare institutions. In order to increase healthcare and nutrition education in the five regions of the project—Njombe, Songwe, Rukwa, Katavi, and Kigoma—the interns will be placed strategically in each of these areas.
Responsibilities:
- Offer technical support for the execution and oversight of hospital-based quality improvement initiatives, including the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, maternity, baby, young child, and adolescent nutrition, and quality improvement, in the approved healthcare institutions.
- Give medical facilities technical assistance for setting up nutrition units or corners, including ECCD.
- Quality Improvement Projects: Work together with local project coordinators to support hospital-based clinical nutrition quality improvement projects in their medical facilities.
- Patient Nutrition Education: Conduct one-on-one and group nutrition education sessions with clients, emphasizing the 10 Steps of Successful Breastfeeding and newborn and young child feeding.
- Oversee menu planning for therapeutic meals for MAM clients in accordance with recommended guidelines and oversee the treatment of MAM in children under the supervision of a five years.
Qualifications:
- a bachelor’s degree from an approved university in clinical nutrition, dietetics, human nutrition, or a similar discipline.
- Excellent communication abilities both in writing and speaking, with the capacity to instruct and counsel patients from a variety of backgrounds.
- proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer programs, such as electronic health record systems.
- Capacity to operate both alone and together in a multidisciplinary team setting.
- shown dedication to continuing education in the field of dietetics and clinical nutrition.
- background in clinical nutrition research techniques.
- experience in outreach initiatives and community involvement in the areas of nutrition and healthcare education.
- Excellent attention to detail, job prioritizing, and organizing abilities.
