With regard to the USAID/Tanzania Lishe (Nutrition) Project, Chemonics is looking for a Finance Assistant. The five-year project is to improve food and health market systems that encourage a variety of stakeholders in the targeted regions of Tanzania to adopt habits related to optimal nutrition. We are looking for people who are passionate about improving people’s lives all across the world. The Finance Assistant will work out of Tanzania’s Dar es Salaam.

Bank reconciliations, filing and scanning, scheduling transactions for Project Accountant review, and submitting payments to the project’s online banking platform are the main duties of the Finance Assistant. As instructed, the Finance Assistant will help the Project Accountant with a range of administrative and bookkeeping duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Classifying payments and receipts in line with the Chemonics Chart of Accounts; utilizing Abacus, the project accounting software, to record project transactions.
  • Creating the bank reconciliations each month.
  • Calculating and remitting to the appropriate authorities the necessary payroll taxes and social insurance.
  • Ensuring that suppliers receive the necessary paperwork for VAT refunds before invoices are paid.
  • Ensuring that before making payments, each transaction has the appropriate paperwork in place as per the policy handbook.
  • Reviewing local cost records prior to reimbursement or travel advance reconciliation to ensure compliance with Federal Travel Regulations and USAID.
  • Keeping an eye on the situation and taking the required steps to lower the balances of accounts due and receivable.

Qualification:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, auditing, and finance
  • A year’s worth of expertise in accounting or bookkeeping.
  • Familiarity with and comprehension of accounting terminology, theories, methods, and principles.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication abilities in both written and spoken English are essential.
  • Excel, Word, and PowerPoint proficiency as well as familiarity with a variety of commercial accounting software packages Excellent attention to detail, job prioritizing, and organizing abilities.
  • The capacity to operate honorably both individually and in a group.
  • Ability to operate well under pressure and in a busy environment with personnel, implementing and cooperating partners, relevant NGOs, and government agencies.
