Operating three schools in Tanzania, Aga Khan Education Service, Tanzania (AKES, T) is a private, non-profit service organization registered under the Companies Act. The mission of AKES is to offer high-quality education that is easily accessible to everybody. It aims to develop students into articulate, ethical, self-assured, and open-minded young adults with academic credentials who can positively impact both their local community and society at large. As a member of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), AKES.T contributes to the betterment of opportunities and living standards for individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs in particular developing-nation areas.

In a school library, the school librarian is in charge of setting up, maintaining, and granting access to information resources. In addition to choosing and procuring books, periodicals, databases, and other items for the library’s collection, they is in charge of cataloging and organizing them so that patrons can easily find what they’re looking for. They may create and provide services and programs, such reading clubs, literacy initiatives, and cultural events, that cater to the needs of the school.

Responsibilities:

  • Arranging materials using methods like shelving, cataloging, classification, and reference that make them easily accessible.
  • Overseeing and assisting in the distribution of reading lists and determining the duration of loans;
  • Creating and overseeing traditional and electronic book and journal collections;
  • Establishing, maintaining, and overseeing printed and electronic information resources;
  • Utilizing databases and libraries to choose, obtain, and catalog information;
  • Forming and keeping productive working connections with students and faculty;
  • Collaborating with academic departments and helping to produce academic courses;
  • Communicating with coworkers at other universities’ libraries;
  • Overseeing the furnishings, equipment, and library building;
  • Taking a stock of the library;
  • Keep up with statistics, records, and circulation files.
  • Delivering library services in response to patrons’ requests for information;

Qualifications:

  • The School of Library Archives and Documentation Studies (SLADS) offers a diploma in library management or a bachelor’s degree in library studies.
  • A bachelor’s degree in education will be beneficial as well.
  • A minimum of two years of experience leading a school library.
  • Competent in both spoken and written English.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Excellent time management, organizing, and autonomous work abilities.
  • Strong computer abilities; proficient in Word, Excel, and email searches.
