BRAC Tanzania
One of the biggest suppliers of non-formal education worldwide is BRAC. Since 2002, we have been operating schools both globally and in Bangladesh for more than 30 years. In addition to running an international pre-primary school program in Bangladesh, Tanzania, and Uganda, BRAC is expanding the markets for early childhood development (ECD) in these same nations for children ages three to five through our “Play Labs” initiative. This involves the running of thirty play labs in Tanzania that are supported by the Yidan Prize and co-located with the Tanzanian government.
In Tanzania, BRAC Enterprises Tanzania Limited (BETL) is a legally recognized private corporation. As a social company, BETL is now conducting a cross-subsidy business model experiment for ECD with the goal of enhancing the development of Tanzanian children aged three to five. Through the creation of a viable business plan for the provision of an affordable, excellent, and expandable play-based early childhood education program, BRAC hopes to stimulate Tanzania’s private ECD sector. The BETL team is in the midst of starting a mobile early childhood development program in Dar es Salaam, and it has recently opened five schools.
