Danish Refugee Council (DRC)

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), which was established in 1956, is a humanitarian non-governmental non-profit organization that offers direct help to populations impacted by violence in more than 40 countries worldwide, including refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), and host communities.

Since the beginning of the Burundi refugee crisis in 2015, DRC has been carrying out emergency response initiatives in Tanzania in three camps for refugees in the Kigoma Region near the Burundian border.

Sectors include Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Protection (CBP, PSN, GBV, CP, and Legal), Shelter and Infrastructure, and Economic Recovery are included in DRC integrated projects for refugees, asylum seekers, and host communities.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Economic Recovery Intern

Overall purpose of the role:

The task of supporting the implementation of livelihoods and environment activities in the host community and in the refugee camps will fall under the management and supervision of the Economic Recovery Officer, and they will work closely with the WFP, UNHCR, local government authorities, and government coordination bodies based in the camps. As a result, the intern for Economic Recovery must be adaptable enough to work remotely at various points of the program.

Tasks and responsibilities of the position

  • As part of DRC’s accountability to the program’s stated aims, assist in making sure benchmarks are accomplished in accordance with the agreement with donors.
  • Assistance in giving program participants and beneficiaries technical and training support, with an emphasis on a variety of topics including the environment, agriculture, livelihoods, and the development of technical and vocational skills.
  • Assistance with item allocation and accurate recording of carried out tasks in accordance with line supervisor guidelines.
  • Make sure that all program activities are properly documented by doing field visits, gathering data, and performing basic analysis on the daily implementation, needs assessments, trainings, item distribution, and activity progress, among other activities.
  • Participate in the program’s monitoring, assessment, and learning plans.
  • Collaborate with the community’s well-established community-based mechanisms and approach problems originating from both the program’s overall framework and individual activities with a solution-focused mindset.
  • Contribute to innovative sustainable projects, proposals, and funding for humanitarian aid and development.
  • Participate in the recording of lessons learnt and make sure that program design and decision-making take these into account.
  • Make ensuring that all actions are carried out in accordance with the DRC’s Code of Conduct (CoC) and the Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
  • As required by the DRC and stakeholders, submit accurate and timely project narrative and analytical report inputs.
  • As directed by the line supervisor, contribute technically in the areas of expertise pertinent to ongoing interventions.
  • Develop and preserve strong working connections with important local and global development and humanitarian actors, such as government officials, non-state actors, and the commercial sector.
  • Maintain close communication with all DRC sectors, including protection and camp management, to guarantee efficient coordination and seamless execution of program operations.

Requirements

  • Either recently graduated or no more than two years of equivalent work experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree or an advanced diploma in one of the following subjects;
  • Entrepreneurship and business administration are two more closely connected areas.
