The Institute’s work today covers a wide range, including biological and ecological sciences, intervention studies, health-systems research, and policy translation. It is driven by a core strategic mission for research, teaching, and services.
The Ifakara Health Institute is looking for an Accounts Officer to oversee the day-to-day financial administration of its portfolio projects. Examining project budgets, requesting and completing payments authorized by project managers, keeping track of daily project transactions, reporting, and monitoring advance payment clearance are all part of this job description.
Responsibilities:
- Compile project reports in line with the funding partners’ requirements.
- Provide monthly financial reports to project leaders (and as needed)
- Make monthly budget and cash balance reports and forward them to the project accountant.
- Annually and quarterly, prepare updated project cash flow reports and send them to the head of projects accounting for institutional compilation.
- Prepare and submit quarterly projects reconciliation reports for the attention of the Head of Projects Accounting.
- Delivering the information that funding partners have requested, working with the project accounting head to coordinate the delivery of financial reports, projections, copies of vouchers, and other materials.
- Pay bills on time and in accordance with budgets and accurate ledger records.
Qualification and Experience :
- A certification in accounting will be advantageous in addition to a first degree or advanced diploma in finance or accounting.
- three years or more of experience working for local or international NGOs
- Familiarity with the accounting processes used by donors (such as DFID, WHO, EU, EDCTP, WT, The Global Fund, BMGF, IDRC, GCC, and USAID/CDC)
Competencies:
- Possessing project management abilities will be beneficial.
- Focused on providing customer service
- Proficiency with computers, particularly with Microsoft Office applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
- Maximum degree of integrity
- Outstanding people skills and the ability to engage with donors and project leaders
- Collaborative Individual
- Effective communication abilities, such as the ability to write and speak Swahili and English
