For a Communication and Engagement Officer, the Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is hiring. This individual will be responsible for developing and carrying out effective communication strategies to enhance public knowledge of the Transmission Zero Program and stimulate public response to it. IHI program’s goal is to create transgenic mosquitoes in order to eradicate malaria in Africa.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Communication and Engagement Officer – 1 POST

Responsibilities

  • Creating, organizing, and assisting with the execution of the project’s communication plan and associated tasks arranged through online and offline media in accordance with the project’s objectives, corporate communications, and national requirements.
  • Collaborating together with the institutional communication unit and project team to produce engaging images and information that highlight the initiative’s effects in Tanzania and are accessible to a worldwide audience.
  • Working closely with global communications, create multi-format content that is routinely added to the editorial calendar to strategically position the project both locally and internationally.
  • Creating media strategies to organize public and media outreach while making sure that the messaging is in line with the project’s brand and the institution’s basic values.
  • Overseeing media relations, providing media kits that include news releases, press conferences that are streamed live, and transcripts of high-level, carefully chosen milestone events.
  • Enhancing and repositioning the project’s digital communication at the national level by means of focused digital engagement.

Qualification

  • A bachelor’s degree with comparable qualifications in a similar discipline, such as international relations and development, journalism, public relations, or communications. The ideal degree is a master’s.
  • It is necessary to have demonstrated experience with digital media, social media, content creation, photography, and videography. Microsoft Office proficiency is also required.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a related function, such as public relations or communication, ideally in the field of public health or implementation.

Skills and Competencies

  • In addition to having outstanding communication abilities, they should speak and write English fluently and be able to thrive in a multicultural, cross-functional team setting.
  • Excellent writing abilities and the capacity to generate a variety of communication materials, such as news, stories, features, fact sheets, reports, case studies, etc.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to captivate and influence a wide range of audiences.
  • They ought to be knowledgeable about and have experience in a variety of communication-related fields. It would be advantageous for candidates to have prior experience working with the UN, development partners, government, media, and research organizations.
