Marine Parks and Reserves Unit (MPRU)

In order to establish strong management for the protection, preservation, and restoration of biodiversity, as well as ecosystems for the sustainable use of marine and fishery resources like fish, corals, mangroves, and sea grass (seaweed), special areas of seas, rivers, natural pools, and lakes are known as marine reserves.

Currently, 18 Marine Sanctuaries and Sanctuaries in the Indian Ocean, totaling around 2,000 square kilometers, are under the management of the Division of Marine Reserves and Sanctuaries.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Pack Ranger

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To take part in MPA patrol operations;
  • To support communication regarding enforcement and patrol logistics with nearby communities;
  • To maintain operational facilities for performing conservation efforts such as patrols;
  • To apprehend lawbreakers and provide exhibits or proof in court;
  • To take part in the delivery of visitor services (rescue, interpretation, and guiding), as required;
  • To take part in the upkeep and cleanup of ruins and nature paths within MPAs;
  • To carry out patrols and compile reports; and
  • To carry out any additional official tasks that your supervisor may assign you.

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

A certificate (NTA Level 5) in one of the following fields: aquaculture, fisheries, wildlife, fish processing, environmental and coastal resource management, marine science, or natural resource management, or equivalent credentials from an accredited institution, is held by the holder of form four, IV, and VI secondary education. It will be advantageous to get a Certificate of Basic Military Training from the national service.
