For the purpose of improving the Permanent Voters’ Register and in accordance with the provisions of Section 7 (4) of the Presidential, Parliamentary and Council Elections Act No. 1 of 2024, the National Electoral Commission of Tanzania (NEC) Director of Elections invites applications from qualified Tanzanians capable of filling the positions of assistant writers and operators of biometric devices.

National Electoral Commission of Tanzania (NEC)

An independent government agency is the National Electoral Commission Tume Ya taifa ya Uchaguzi (NEC). Article 74(1) of the United Republic of Tanzania, 1977 Constitution established it in 1993.

In order to protect democracy, the NEC objective is to coordinate and oversee general and by-election elections through voter registration, constituency demarcation, and voter education in partnership with important stakeholders. The Commission aspires to be a reputable electoral management body in Africa.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Assistant Writer

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years old and a citizen of Tanzania;
  • Need to have finished their secondary schooling (Form Four) additionally
  • Possess reading and writing skills in English or Swahili; must be proficient at utilizing a smartphone or computer;
  • Must not be a leader or member of any political party, and must dwell in the village or street in the ward where they are applying to be an assistant writer.
  • Must be truthful and submissive.

2. Biometric Device Operator

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a Tanzanian citizen and at least eighteen years old;
  • Must have completed at least high school and be literate in either Swahili or English (Form Four);
  • Must be adept at using a computer or smartphone;
  • Must reside in the ward for which they are applying to work as a biometric device operator, either in a village or on a street;
  • Must not be a leader or member of a political party; and
  • Must be obedient and truthful.

PAYMENT: The following payments will be made: i. Assistant writers and biometric device operators will receive a daily stipend of 50,000/= plus a transport allowance for the days they work at stations improving the Register; ii. Assistant writers and biometric device operators will receive a daily stipend of 50,000/= plus a transport allowance of 10,000/= for each day of training.

GENERAL CONDITIONS :

  • Along with the ward they would like to work in, the candidate must describe the position for which they are applying.
  • As specified in this announcement, the candidate must attach copies of their professional and secondary education certificates in order to be considered for the relevant position. c. a resume (CV) with the names of two referees, a valid phone number, and their residential address. d. Two current passport-size photos. d. an introduction letter from their area’s local government executive.
  • Applicants who work for the government are required to submit their application letters through their employment. In order to streamline the application submission process, ALL SEALED LETTERS MUST BE SENT TO THE WARD EXECUTIVE OFFICER, WHO WILL ACCEPT THEM AND PASS THEM ON TO THE COUNCIL DIRECTOR.
