Responsibilities:

  • The Human Rights Officer will be in charge of the following tasks under their assigned authority.
  • examines, keeps track of, and assesses actions associated with the application of international human rights instruments, including treaty bodies’ and the Human Rights Council’s mechanisms’ recommendations.
  • Supports the efforts of entities established by treaties as well as unique and unconventional systems and procedures.
  • Creates pertinent human rights sections for reports to the Human Rights Council, General Assembly, etc.; keeps track of the ratification status of human rights instruments, etc.
  • Collaborates with UN and non-governmental organizations in the nation or region to incorporate gender considerations into their human rights initiatives; assists in the creation and execution of the human rights program and develops the framework and assessment’s main objectives.

Professionalism: Exposure to and understanding of a variety of human rights concerns, including methods and strategies for handling delicate and intricate issues pertaining to political, ethnic, racial, gender, and socioeconomic aspects of human rights. knowledge of current policies and processes, as well as the institutional mandates of human rights organizations. The capacity to analyze and incorporate data from several sources and determine how it will affect the state of human rights in the area or nation where one is assigned, taking into account the political climate and human rights-related laws. the capacity to finish in-depth research and draw conclusions on potential causes and fixes for issues related to human rights in particular systems and communities.

It is necessary to have at least seven years of increasingly responsible experience in any of the following fields: law, international relations, politics, human rights, or a similar field. It is necessary to have prior experience incorporating a human rights-based strategy into development programs. It is preferred if you have training in human rights. It is preferred to have project management experience.
