For the Human Wildlife Coexistence Project, Six Rivers Africa is seeking a Senior Project Officer (SPO) to carry out conservation-friendly community development interventions in the schools and communities near the Msolwa sector of Nyerere National Park in Ifakara, Morogoro, and the Usangu sector of Ruaha National Park in Mbarali, Mbeya.

In Ifakara TC and Mbarali DC, the SPO will be in charge of organizing, planning, supervising, and tracking the effective execution of the Human Wildlife Coexistence Project. In addition, the job holder will oversee the day-to-day administration of project teams, which will include beneficiaries, community resource persons, and project officers, as well as the execution of project operations. In order to ensure that the M&E framework and activities are implemented effectively and efficiently, the SPO will also be crucial in reviewing the M&E framework of SRA and institutionalizing all necessary systems, tools, reports, and indicators. This includes making sure that donor rules and regulations are followed.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and directs the SRA’s project monitoring and assessment efforts, both inside and outside the park.
  • Collaborate closely with the Impact Manager to jointly build the monitoring tools, choose the indicators, and assign roles for field monitoring. strives to guarantee tool coherence, coordination within the M&E framework, and conformity to donor specifications.
  • In charge of creating and implementing systems for the timely collection, management, analysis, and reporting of accurate and trustworthy data that satisfies donor reporting standards, as well as providing technical support.
  • Make routine visits to the conservation sites in Six Rivers, Africa, in order to gather data and record important deliverables.
  • Review programs and/or organizations’ M&E systems (M&E Frameworks) on a regular basis and take part in the planning of actions aimed at strengthening M&E systems.

Project Management: 

  • Manage and spearhead the execution of all Human Wildlife Coexistence Project-related tasks, such as planning, budgeting, executing, supervising, and documenting fieldwork.
  • Make sure that project interventions have a lasting effect by delivering project outputs and outcomes on time and with high quality.
  • In charge of creating success stories, project performance reports, and records of best practices and lessons discovered.
  • creating and revising the project activity plan, which includes adhering to the budget and managing costs.
  • In charge of offering technical advice on how to carry out the project’s livelihood activities that are compatible with conservation.
  • closely coordinating with other pertinent, like-minded groups engaged in community development and animal conservation initiatives at the appropriate project areas.
  • Attend meetings and activities on behalf of SRA, both locally and nationally.

Financial Management: 

  • Overseeing on-the-ground activity spending, making sure all expenditures are honest and worth the money
  • Maintain a record of every expense, making sure that appropriate paperwork and receipts are present for each purchase.
  • Monitoring the budget and making sure that every project expense stays within set limits.
  • Putting together project-related financial reports.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At least five years of experience in wildlife and environmental conservation, livelihoods, agricultural extension services, or rural development are required, along with a bachelor’s degree (or higher) in environmental sciences, project management, community/rural development, economics, or similar fields.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience carrying out community development initiatives that include a livelihoods and food security component, particularly in rural areas (agricultural, savings and loan groups, cash/voucher assistance, etc.).
  • It is advantageous to have prior experience tracking and assessing conservation efforts.
  • An advantage is having prior experience carrying out conservation projects.
  • Proficient in both written and spoken English; proficient in documenting and drafting reports.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; capacity to interact productively with individuals at all levels.
  • Good facilitation and training abilities.
  • Working with the government, non-governmental groups, civil society organizations, etc. is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with statistical computer software such as ArcGIS Pro, SPSS, and R project.
  • Strong computer abilities, such as using Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Expertise creating activity budgets.
