Tanzania Horticultural Association (TAHA)

The mission of Tanzania’s premier private sector membership organization, TAHA, is to advance and grow horticulture, which includes flowers, fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, and horticultural seeds. The objective of TAHA is to enhance the nation’s horticultural industry’s growth and competitiveness for both social and economic benefits. TAHA is an all-inclusive platform for invoicing in Tanzanian horticulture that represents growers at every stage, including processors, exporters, and service providers.

The Regional Agronomist is in charge of collaborating with farmers to address agricultural-related issues and figuring out how to enhance production and extension methods for higher crop yields. In addition to participating in product marketing, the regional agronomist will carry out research and support agricultural practices aimed at mitigating the consequences of climate change and its implications for soil, insect, and disease behavior.

Responsibilities:

  • Encourage farmers to organize into official associations or groups and register them with TAHA.
  • Create a crop cluster for market connections, agrodealer training, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) education.
  • To determine market prospects on a local, regional, and global scale. Create and put into action plans for long-term connections with local, regional, and global markets.
  • Recognize the essential production and market requirements to align the supply and demand sides for market linkage procedures.
  • Uphold strong links in the relevant areas with TAHA, Local Government Authorities (LGAs), and other ground partners.
  • Make ensuring that, in close coordination with the Programs and M&E Departments, timely and high-quality reports are generated and distributed to the appropriate parties.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in science with a focus on agriculture general, horticulture, crop production and management, applied agricultural extension, and agronomy.
  • Three years minimum of experience in agricultural development, concentrating on crop production and horticulture.
  • Proficiency with contemporary farming methods, such as irrigation, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).
  • Strong grasp of horticulture techniques, including familiarity with cutting-edge and environmentally friendly approaches.
  • Familiarity with starting and running farmers’ organizations, gathering places, and distribution hubs.
  • Knowledge of agricultural product marketing methods, links, and market analysis.
