World Food Programme (WFP)

The largest humanitarian organization in the world battling hunger is the United Nations World Food Programme. WFP’s goal is to assist the world in achieving zero hunger within our lifetimes. WFP works daily to guarantee that no child goes to bed hungry and that the most vulnerable and impoverished people, especially women and children, have access to the nourishing meals they require.

WFP’s Tanzania is currently accepting applications for a Communications Officer. Reporting to the Head of the Communications, Marketing, and Advocacy/Partnerships Unit, the role is headquartered at the Country Office in Dar es Salaam. The Unit is essential to the WFP’s efforts to promote its activities both inside and outside in line with the aims and objectives of the organization’s Country Strategic Plan (2022–27).

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the execution of project communication work plans and country communications strategies aimed at preserving and enhancing WFP’s reputation and visibility. You should also assist fund-raising initiatives that are consistent with WFP’s corporate strategies as a whole.
  • Provide top-notch informational materials, such as fact sheets, briefings, and newsletters, for print and digital platforms that enlighten and educate specific audiences on WFP’s activities.
  • Gather audio-visual materials (pictures and videos) and create human interest narratives to present WFP’s activities to audiences inside and beyond the organization (WFP country, regional, and global offices).
  • In order to guarantee the effective creation of video, photo, and radio goods, provide significant, specialized support, coordination, and advice.
  • Create content for donor-specific visibility, such as text, images, videos, and audio, to be used.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, public relations, international relations, or communications from an academic institution; plus, appropriate work experience in an international organization.
  • Language: Swahili and English fluency (level C) for a national professional; the capacity to read, write, communicate, and perform translations.
  • The minimal requirement is one year of postgraduate professional experience. It is preferred to have more years of relevant professional work experience in sectors connected to communications.
