In the Tarime district of the Mara region, in northwest Tanzania, sits the North Mara gold mine (Barrick Gold Corporation). It is approximately 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border and 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria.

In 2002, Barrick North Mara began producing goods for sale. The mine is an open pit and underground operation that uses two deposits: Nyabirama (open pit) and Gokona (underground). An average of 8,000 tonnes of ore can be processed every day by the process unit.

Open Positions and Description:

1. Mechanical Supervisor – Process Plant Maintenance

Responsibilities 

  • Follow established rules and policies when carrying out your everyday tasks, paying close attention to both the quantity and quality of the work you produce.
  • Oversee all scheduled and corrective mechanical maintenance tasks; recognize issues and put corrective measures in place.
  • Observe subordinates’ work while adhering to established policies and procedures.
  • Determine and address risks and hazards to preserve a working environment that is friendly to the environment.
  • Examine ways to reduce costs and increase productivity within your purview and provide recommendations for a plan of action.
  • Exercise leadership in ensuring that workers and contractors follow environmental and safety regulations that go above and beyond global industry norms and any relevant legal requirements.
  • Oversee the Mechanical Maintenance Team’s operations to ensure high-quality, safe, and economical maintenance work and to maximize the company’s financial situation.

Qualification requirements

  • A suitable trade qualification from an accredited institution in mechanical or fabrication engineering, or its equivalent.
  • It is imperative to have prior experience with methodical employee coaching and training.
  • It is crucial to have prior experience with automated maintenance systems, such as Pronto.
  • Must possess a current Tanzanian driver’s license.

2. Instrumentation Technician

Responsibilities

  • Solid understanding of best practices and mining safety regulations.

4. Senior Mining Engineer

Responsibilities 

  • In charge of a group of mining engineers, create integrated mine designs that guarantee value generation.

Qualification requirements

  • Mining Engineering Diploma/Degree or Equivalent.
  • Solid understanding of computer programs, Microsoft Word and Excel, mine equipment performance, fleet management systems, driver safety systems, and production optimization.
  • Must exhibit strong English communication abilities both in writing and speaking.
  • Results-driven and a team player.
  • Having a current Tanzanian driver’s license will be helpful.
  • Knowledge of the Mines Health and Safety Act.
