International Peace Institute (IPI)
For a full-time, paid internship lasting six months, beginning in late June as a member of the IPI Publications Team, the International Peace Institute is currently accepting qualifying applications.
The intern will help produce IPI policy papers, issue briefs, and associated materials at IPI’s headquarters in New York City, reporting to the Head of Publications. Additionally, the intern will support the Chief Editor of IPI’s online publication, the Global Observatory. In addition to managing publication production and gaining experience editing lengthier policy papers and shorter analytical articles, the intern will have the chance to benefit from IPI’s ongoing research on women, peace, and security, the multilateral system, peace operations, and climate change.
For the six months of the internship, the chosen applicant will be required to operate in a hybrid manner (both remotely and in person). The applicant must be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST, which is the usual working hour of IPI.
Responsibilities
- Proofreading, fact-checking, copyediting, and formatting citations for IPI publications and GO articles as well as copyediting additional IPI communications as needed;
- Upholding the home style manual;
- Gathering images for publishing through study;
- Supporting the social media distribution of publications;
- assisting in the tracking of IPI publications’ effects;
- Carrying out administrative duties pertaining to publications;
- Providing necessary support for IPI research (literature reviews, data analysis, etc.); and
- Carrying out other ad hoc duties as decided by the head of publications.
Qualifications
- Exceptional editing skills, strong attention to detail, enthusiasm for grammar, and strong opinions regarding punctuation;
- Exceptional writing skills and a knowledge of how to communicate concepts succinctly and clearly;
- Strong sense of layout and design;
- BA, especially in a relevant field or international affairs;
- It is desirable to know Chicago style;
- Preferred is prior experience working as a writing tutor, copyediting, or proofreading;
- Working knowledge of design software or spreadsheets is advantageous;
- Interest in or familiarity with multilateral institutions is advantageous; and
- French writing proficiency is a bonus.
Compensation:
The editorial internship is a 40-hour work week full-time position with an hourly wage of $16.00.
Candidates must be able to work in the United States. Please be aware that work visas for internships cannot be sponsored by IPI. Applications without a clear statement of authorization to work in the USA won’t be taken into consideration.
