In the Tarime district of the Mara region, in northwest Tanzania, sits the North Mara gold mine (Barrick Gold Corporation). It is approximately 20 kilometers south of the Kenyan border and 100 kilometers east of Lake Victoria.

In 2002, Barrick North Mara began producing goods for sale. The mine is an open pit and underground operation that uses two deposits: Nyabirama (open pit) and Gokona (underground). An average of 8,000 tonnes of ore can be processed every day by the process unit.

1. Boilermaker – 1 POST

The Barrick North Mara squad is looking to add a Boilermaker to their squad in order to expand.

Responsibilities 

  • Assure adherence to all legal requirements as well as the environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures of Barrick.
  • Submit an incident report for any problems pertaining to health, safety, and the environment (HSE).
  • Daily upkeep Examination and operation of stationary plant machinery.
  • Make sure the specifics of the work completion are completed in compliance with the guidelines and protocols.
  • Make ensuring that mechanical tools and equipment are stored and maintained in compliance with OEM and Barrick safety guidelines.
  • Execute job risk analyses (JHA, FLRA).
  • Make sure the Fixed plant runs within reasonable bounds, reporting any deviations.
  • Follow the guidelines for lockout and isolation permits.
  • Respect workplace safety laws, rules, and requirements.
  • carries out expert planned and unforeseen repairs of any mechanical equipment in accordance with the relevant safety, environmental, and code regulations.
  • Use the 5S principle to keep your workspace tidy and safe for the environment.
  • Obtain and uphold the necessary licenses and authorizations in order to carry out the assigned tasks, such as basic rigging, working at heights, and machine operation (such as operating a forklift).
  • Utilizing welders, cutters, shapers, and measuring instruments, fabricate and assemble metal structures and machinery.
  • Make, bend, weld, and install Y pieces, chutes, boxes, pipes, reducers, and bends.
  • Fix and maintain different-sized metal structures and equipment.
  • To ascertain project operations, material requirements, and deadlines, read and comprehend schematics, sketches, and blueprints.
  • Use proper maintenance practices while fixing chutes, pipes, steel structures, and tanks.
  • For new steel structures and any steel works repairs, use normal paint.
  • Examine components, structures, and welded surfaces to find mistakes.
  • In order to fix any flaws, check pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, and pipes for leaks, weak points, and damaged areas.
  • Assemble, fit, and fabricate the structural parts of different mechanical systems.
  • Follow any instructions from the report line supervisor for any task.
  • Follow your supervisor’s instructions for basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding, and rigging.
  • To maintain a clean and organized work area or equipment, use wire brushes, scrapers, and cleaning solutions.
  • As instructed by the supervisor, clean, maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical parts, components, and equipment.
  • Check steel structures and fixed plants on a regular basis.
  • On time complete work orders for preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs, generate follow-up notifications, and offer feedback on the job done.
  • Removes faulty pieces by disassembling equipment, utilizing hand and power tools, hoists, cranes, and inspecting the shape and texture of the parts.
  • Maintains inventories of parts, supplies, and equipment by calculating stock levels, estimating future needs for parts, supplies, and equipment, and planning with a supervisor.
  • keeps work teams together by recording and sharing actions, anomalies, and ongoing requirements.
  • In charge of the transfer of shifts at the area of duty.

Qualification requirements

  • Technical/Vocational Education, Apprenticeship Training, and On-the-Job Training (including FTC, VETA, and IMTT Trade Tests or similar programs).
  • Solid understanding of best practices and mining safety regulations.

Experience and competencies needed.

  • Three years minimum of post-apprenticeship experience operating heavy mobile equipment both underground and on the surface.
  • Working familiarity with equipment safety regulations.
  • Prior industrialized plant maintenance expertise is advantageous.
  • Experience with TIG, MIG, and arc welding machines, among other welding equipment.
  • Outstanding familiarity with manual tools, electrical equipment, and welding machinery.
  • Underground and open-pit mining experience is necessary.
  • Excellent communication abilities in English, both written and spoken.
  • Identification of hazards and evaluation of risks.
  • Recognize technical manuals and drawings.
  • The VETA Driving Certificate.
  • Hold a valid class B, C, D, or E driver’s license issued in Tanzania.
  • Able to operate a stick shift or manual transmission.
  • Strong foundation and experience in technical and strategic planning.
  • The capacity to reliably oversee such a diverse portfolio under demanding circumstances.
