Mwambao Coastal Community Network

In order to assist communities in Tanzania’s coastal regions in building robust and efficient local resource management systems that maintain livelihoods and marine ecosystems, the Mwambao Coastal Community Network was founded in 2010. Mwambao uses a community-based network that spans several coastal areas and villages to empower local people and provide them with opportunities to learn from one another. This network structure encourages group action on common goals, including influencing policy, as well as learning.

Working with several important international partners, Mwambao has become a prominent player in promoting community-based marine management in northeastern Tanzania and Zanzibar. Since 2014, Mwambao and Fauna & Flora International have collaborated to support the Pemba Channel Conservation Area’s (PECCA) efficient management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation, supervision, and tracking of all work plans in close collaboration with the CEO, Chief Technical Advisor, Head of MEL, and Head of Programs.
  • Assist the Head of Programs in providing project and narrative reports to funders, making sure that the reports are sent by the agreed-upon timeframes.
  • Working together with the CEO, Chief Technical Advisor, and Head of MEL to enhance strategic partnership ties that are critical to the organization’s expansion and prosperity, and sharing MEL information as needed
  • Participate in the organization’s biannual narrative report. Work together to ensure that each Field Officer submits weekly and monthly reports, and support the creation of a template for these reports, in conjunction with the CEO and Head of Program.

Qualifications:

  • Three years or more of experience managing natural resources; prior marine experience is preferred.
  • A degree or diploma in a related field of study
  • Fundamental understanding of qualitative analysis and statistics.
  • Prior expertise overseeing the planning and gathering of social and ecological data from fieldwork.
  • Prior expertise leading talks in focus groups.
  • Prior experience coaching and educating employees.
  • Prior experience organizing field spot inspections and overseeing the quality of data gathering, preferably in a marine or fisheries setting.
  • It would be ideal to have prior experience working for a research institute or non-profit.
  • Previous knowledge of fundamental data interpretation and analysis, as well as how to show the findings in graphs and bar charts
  • Prior expertise creating novel, best-practice-based socioeconomic monitoring techniques.
