The process artisan’s primary responsibility is to operate the process area in accordance with work instructions, conduct non-destructive quality inspections, and perform routine maintenance.

Key outputs and responsibilities:

Operating and Process Control:

  • Operating the process area in accordance with the job instructions and usage norms.
  • Executing the necessary quality checks as indicated in the quality control and analysis work procedure.
  • Recording waste on suitable paperwork or information systems, and evaluating waste trends to detect problems or opportunities in a timely
  • Constantly check process performance versus target, and complete all short interval control documentation.
  • Responding quickly to upstream or downstream triggers that cause stoppages.
  • The appropriate problem-solving approaches, as stated in the problem-solving work practice, must be followed.
  • Performing housekeeping activities, utilizing the 5S principles, and following safe work standards.
  • Unsafe work practices need to be identified and corrected.
  • Assisting fellow team members in completing their tasks

Maintenance of Plant and Equipment:

  • Perform thorough cleaning, lubrication, and inspection of machinery in accordance with the work instructions and the timetables provided by the maintenance planner.
  • Routine maintenance tasks are carried out in accordance with the maintenance schedule. When normal maintenance exposes greater problems that the process artisan is unable to fix, they must be escalated to the team leader.
  • Participate in maintenance and cleaning days.
  • This task must be completed in support of the maintenance support team and according to the timetable set by the maintenance planner.
  • Participate in maintenance postmortems.
  • This must be done to assist the maintenance professional help.
  • Monitoring trends while doing routine maintenance
  • Where patterns suggest the existence of underlying problems, corrective action must be Quality Control and Analyzed.

Communication:

  • Actively participating in shift meetings, asking questions to test understanding, and making recommendations
  • Use the gap list to note issues, difficulties, and improvement possibilities.
  • Understanding the team goals and taking part in team goal review meetings
  • When FFAs are launched, the process artisan may be requested to participate.
  • Using appropriate communication media (e.g., shift logbook) to stay informed and tell others about difficulties.

Problem Solving:

  • When problems arise, apply the relevant approaches (e.g., 5y, quick repair routines, etc.) to identify and rectify the problem.
  • If the process artisan is unable to resolve the situation, involve other team members or escalate to the team leader as needed.
  • When problems have been resolved, ensure that they have been eliminated.
  • Continuous Improvement. Use run/control charts and trend analysis to identify sources of waste and variance in the process.
  • Using short stop analysis, Pareto charts, and other tools, investigate possibilities to simplify activities.
  • When improvement possibilities are found, they must be documented on the team gap list.
  • The process artisan should involve other team members in analyzing opportunities and call in specialist resources to assist as needed.

  • Diploma/Degree: Mechanical or Electrical
  • Trade Test Mechanical or Electrical
